Ace Frehley talks about solo effort

Ace Frehley is recording his first solo album since 1990 and he spoke to Billboard all about it.  The guitarist is working on the as-yet-untitled record at his home studio in Westchester, New York and hopes to be done with it by the time his North American tour starts on the 20th.  Frehley, who left Kiss in 2002 to sober up, says he is negotiating with “two or three record labels” but will probably first release the album through his Web site.  Ace described the sound, saying, “I’m trying to get back into the mindset I was in when I did my first solo record.  That record seemed to have all the elements everybody liked – a real cool instrumental, a hit single, some real heavy rockers, a nice variety of different genres of music.”  As for his upcoming tour, sadly, you won’t hear new music during it.  Ace explained, “I don’t want to play any of the new songs cause I don’t want to give away anything.  I want that magic and mystique of hearing something for the first time when you’re supposed to, so I don’t think I’m going to play any of [the new songs] until the CD’s released.”  Frehley’s tour, which will be filled with Kiss favorites he wrote and material from his other solo albums, kicks off on the 20th in Baltimore.
