What a perfect way to start off the month of “Fab-ruary”- Watching the Beatles tribute movie, Across the Universe. I saw it a couple of days ago at the Academy Theater and what an experience! I could have a glass of wine with my movie- WHAT??? I felt so at home, I almost took off my shoes!
First, let me just say, this movie was SO FUN! All the classic songs you know and love. I couldn’t help but tap my toes and lip-synch every song! I didn’t want the people in the theater to start throwing popcorn if they heard me singing!
The movie features Beatle originals with a twist putting them into the context of the movie and sung by the cast members. (Moulin Rougish, I know, but waaaayyyyy better lyrical music!)
Seriously, even if you’re NOT a Beatles fanatic, you can enjoy the love story, the historical references or the psychedelic scenes there’s something for everyone. I wouldn’t recommend bringing a child to this movie. It’s PG-13 because of some drugs, nude booties, sexuality and cursing.
OKAY now just a teaser but if you like how lyrics are brought to life in the movies, you’ll get a HUGE kick out of this Ready (I’m not going to spoil anything for you, I promise)
The title of the movie, and many of the characters are named after various songs by The Beatles: Lucy, Jude, Sadie, Mr. Kite,
Dr. Robert, Prudence, JoJo, Rita.
There are also references to their albums like Let It Be. The rooftop performance when the cast perform "All You Need Is Love" is a reference to The Beatles' rooftop performance, their final public appearance. Cool, huh! I knew you Beatle maniacs would love this. Also, they do a spoof in the movie The group takes a psychedelic bus ride reminiscent of the Beatles' bus ride in "Magical Mystery Tour". Oh, there’s more, but you’ll have to check out the movie!
ONE LAST THING
Dr. Robert is played by a famous singer take a guess and don’t cheat!!! If you just close your eyes, you may be able to recognize his prolific voice KOO KOO KA-CHU!!!
I have attached his version of “I am the Walrus”. Click here to listen! Send your guesses as to the artist and let me know what you thought of his performance! I thought he rocked it!
Whew as you can tell I LOVED IT! I hope you like it as much as I do! Be a movie critic send me an email and let me know what you think! By the way, it’s coming out on DVD on February 5th!
Good Day Sunshine!
