Eagles sell 700-thousand albums in first week.

Wal-Mart, which is exclusively selling the Eagles’ first album in 28 years, Long Road Out of Eden, has made the sales numbers public. According to the chain, the record sold more than 700-thousand units in its first week of release, making it the largest first week sales of any music product at Wal-Mart in the last two years. An executive at the company says that the RIAA has been notified of the sales to make sure the band is rewarded for the impressive numbers. Irving Azoff, the Eagles’ manager, said, “The band produced and delivered an album of integrity that was in keeping with their legacy and the fans responded. The phenomenal first week sales of Long Road Out of Eden are a testament to Wal-Mart’s marketing and distribution.” In fact, sources say Billboard plans to break tradition by allowing the exclusive album to chart on the Billboard 200, where it will debut at number one, above Britney Spears.
