Eddie Van Halen's part of Thriller

Michael Jackson’s Thriller is the best selling album of all time and the classic 1983 album brought us hits like “Beat It, “Billie Jean” and, of course, “Thriller.” The record is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and a new version of it hits stores today. Thriller was produced by the legendary Quincy Jones, who shared a funny story about the recording session with Eddie Van Halen on “Beat It.” (Actuality #3) “I got him two six packs of beer, he brought in two Gibson speakers… when I first called him he cussed me out every time and would hang up. He didn’t believe it was me (laughs). We still laugh about that and I said, ‘Man, don’t be hanging up on me (laughs)! Please.” Once Jones got Van Halen in the studio, he laid down a classic guitar solo on the tune. (Actuality #4) “I said play what you hear, play what you feel. I’m not gonna sit here and give you note by note. Play what you feel and he tore it up man… tore it up! That took us… I don’t know… about two hours.” The 25th Anniversary edition of Thriller is in stores now.
