It's the first big camping weekend of the year, Memorial weekend. According to "Reservations Northwest," most of the prime spots are taken. Especially popular are the lake and beach areas; those tend to fill up first.
Some suggestions for camping procrastinators:
- Call and check for cancellations and see if something's opened up for them.
- Usually they book two days to nine months in advance.
- If you want to check for an opening at the last minute, you need to call by the Wednesday prior to the holiday weekend.
- If you can't get a reservation, you might try one of the first come, first served parks.
- You can also get those listings by calling the "Information Center" at (800) 551-6949.
If you still can't make arrangements for Memorial weekend, some places are reserving up to nine months in advance, so it's never too early to start thinking about the next camping trip.
For booking and other information, call "Reservations Northwest" at (800) 452-5687, or log on to their website www.oregon.gov/OPRD/PARKS/index.shtml.
