Musicians Petition Against Nuclear Power

Some powerful names are listed on a new petition asking Congress to stop bailing out the nuclear power industry. Musicians like Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne and Graham Nash have released a new YouTube video in which they speak about the pending energy bill that provides loans for nuclear power plants to get built. As they sing a rendition of Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” they urge viewers to sign a petition demanding tax dollars not go towards benefiting the nuclear power industry. The trio of singers hopes to then deliver the petition to Congress on October 23rd, which is known as Lobby Day in Washington D.C. This isn’t the first time the musicians have fought against nuclear power; they’ve been protesting it since the 1970’s. Melissa Etheridge, Ben Harper, Patti Smith, Pearl Jam, Herbie Hancock and many other artists are also taking part in the petition. To sign it yourself or to see the YouTube video, head to NukeFree.org.
