The Rolling Stones might know a thing or two about drugs, so when they address the troubled, young singers today who are dealing with addiction, those up-and-coming musicians might want to listen. At the Berlin premiere of the band’s new Martin Scorsese directed documentary Shine a Light, Mick Jagger revealed, “When we were experimenting with drugs, little was known about the effects. In our time, there were no rehab centers. Anyway, I did not know about them.” Jagger then added his thoughts on recently rehabbed singer Amy Winehouse, with whom he performed at the Isle of Wight Festival last year. He said, “I’m worried she might die if she goes down the road that she has taken.” However, since he said that, controversy has been brewing with many accusing the Stones of hypocrisy and coming across like grandfathers. According to British paper The Telegraph, a spokesman for the group has lashed out against those claims and defended the singers comments. He stated, “Mick and Keith (Richards) were asked to give their views about Amy and did so. They are still good mates.” Shine a Light hits theaters in the States on April 4th. |
