Specialty Surfaces

Bamboo PlyPaperstone

Paperstone is a new solid surface countertop material made from recycled paper and water-based resins. With the look and feel of soapstone or slate, Paperstone is durable, repairable, and heat resistant to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Paperstone is offered in a wide variety of colors. Unlike Terrazzo, stone, and concrete, Paperstone does not require specialty fabrication and is unlimited in edge detail. It is available in four lengths and two widths, with 3/4 inch, 1 inch, and 1¼ inch thicknesses.

Paperstone is manufactured in a plant in Hoquiam, Washington, where state of the art emissions control and safety equipment ensure the health of workers and the environment.

Bamboo PlyBamboo Ply

Bamboo Ply is used as an alternative material to wood. As a grass it has a rapid growth rate, yet has the hardness comparable to a hardwood such as red oak. It is made of solid bamboo and has exceptionally low formaldehyde content. The plywood core is constructed by laminating bamboo strips with a low/zero V.O.C. (Volatile Organic Compounds) adhesive and then setting it perpendicular to the face veneers. It comes in the same two patterns and colors as our bamboo flooring -- Amber and Natural, and in Horizontal and Vertical. The horizontal cut exposes a face grain that complements the nodes on the bamboo. In contrast the vertical cut creates a more symmetrical look. Bamboo ply can be cut and finished using traditional woodworking techniques. Any combination of color and pattern is available. There are three options of thickness: 1/4", 1/2", 3/4". The 3/4" comes in 4' x 8' panels which have "cross-lamination" layers to provide strength. The 3/4" vertical ply can be ordered without cross-lamination in a 30" x 72" board. The 1/4" and 1/2" plys come in 16" x 72" boards that have no cross-lamination, just 1 to 2 layers depending on the pattern. All bamboo plys are unfinished.
